Matsuya Japanese Cuisine @ Bangsar

It's been a very long time since my last food post!
So here I am again for another Japanese restaurant review!!
This time it's Matsuya which is located at Bangsar, Jalan Telawi, where Inside Scoop is located at.
You might miss out this restaurant as it's not really eye catching.

This restaurant was actually in one of KL's best sushi restaurant when we searched online, which is why me and my family end up having our Mother Day dinner at.

We start off with some salad and maki,

Soft Shell Crab Salad | RM25
Just like your ordinary salad with balsamic vinegar.
Nothing too special about it, however the amount of softshell crab is quite generous. But a little too stingy on the vegetables. I mean, I ordered a salad, please give me more vege. ._.
I still prefer Senya Izakaya's Soft Shell Crab Salad because of the Sesame Sauce they provide.

Matsu Maki | RM25
Maki with breadcrumb prawn, fresh water eel and avocado topped with flying fish roe!
The fish roe is a big plus to me! It taste great too!

Uni Tofu | RM25
Bean curd topped with sea urchin! I've always been a fan of sea urchin after watching Ama-chan(A Japanese drama) and THIS IS AMAZING! I LOVEEE THE COMBINATION OF UNI AND TOFU. However if you're not really a fan of sea urchin, it might be toooo fishy for you.

Sashimi Moriawase (Matsu) | RM 150
Suitable for 2-3 pax. The sashimi was just OK. If you're looking for very fresh sashimi then this might not be the right place for you. But it is still acceptable! :)

Gindara Saikyomiso Zuke Yaki | RM 55
Grilled cod fish with marinade sweet miso sauce!
Firstly the presentation was really cute, and the taste is A.MA.ZING.
It's super tasty, the lotus leaf that wraps around the fish is cooked together to let the fish taste better. The leaf is actually imported all the way from Japan! Impressed or not!

Cha Soba | RM 20
The portion is quite big for the soba. This cold soba is actually really cold. Unlike most of the restaurant where their cold soba is not really cold. Matsuya's cha soba is really really cold as it's served with ice below the noodles. Even the dipping sauce is cold! Which was really refreshing!

Shake Ikura Don | RM 40
HUGE disappointment on this.
The IKURA(fish roe) WAS NOT FRESH AT ALL. IT WAS SUPER DUPER FISHY.
I ate homemade ikura rice by my host mother in Japan before. So i was actually hoping for the same taste. But this is so disappointing. The ikura ruined the whole dish. T_T

We ended our dinner with some goma(sesame) ice cream, RM 8. Both in white and black.
The sesame ice cream really sesame as you can still feel there's sesame seed in the ice cream.
Which will taste a little bitter, but I don't mind the bitterness from sesame so it's was really good!

I would conclude that this is an ok place to be if you're craving for Japanese food and you're around the area.
I would give a 3.5 out of 5 because the Ikura wasn't fresh.
However the Uni and Cod Fish is really yummy! Definitely worth giving it a try!
